Safety

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Blazer EV. But it costs extra on the Lyriq.

The Blazer EV’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Blazer EV and the Lyriq have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available front parking sensors.

Warranty

There are over 5 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Cadillac dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Blazer EV’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 54 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is ranked 23rd, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 22 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is ranked 12th.

Engine

The Blazer EV’s electric motors produces 8 lbs.-ft. more torque (333 vs. 325) than the Lyriq’s standard electric motor.

Tires and Wheels

The Blazer EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Lyriq doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

The Blazer EV RS handles at .80 G’s, while the Lyriq Luxury AWD pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For greater off-road capability the Blazer EV has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Lyriq (7.9 vs. 7 inches), allowing the Blazer EV to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Chevrolet Blazer EV may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 pounds less than the Cadillac Lyriq.

The Blazer EV is 4.5 inches shorter than the Lyriq, making the Blazer EV easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Blazer EV has 2.3 inches more front headroom, .9 inches more front hip room and .4 inches more rear headroom than the Lyriq.

Towing

The Blazer EV’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the Lyriq’s (1500 vs. 0 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Blazer EV RS offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Blazer EV has a standard rear wiper. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Recommendations

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its January 2024 issue and the Chevrolet Blazer EV RS won out over the Cadillac Lyriq Luxury AWD.

Motor Trend selected the Blazer EV as their 2024 Sport Utility of the Year. The Lyriq has never been chosen.

The Chevrolet Blazer outsold the Cadillac Lyriq by over seven to one during 2023.
