Both the Equinox EV and the bZ4X have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV weighs 459 to 775 pounds more than the Toyota bZ4X. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Equinox EV’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the bZ4X’s (6 vs. 5 years).

The Equinox EV’s standard electric motor produces 12 more horsepower (213 vs. 201) and 40 lbs.-ft. more torque (236 vs. 196) than the bZ4X’s standard electric motor. The Equinox EV’s optional electric motors produces 74 more horsepower (288 vs. 214) and 85 lbs.-ft. more torque (333 vs. 248) than the bZ4X’s optional electric motors.

For better traction, the Equinox EV has larger standard tires than the bZ4X (245/55R19 vs. 235/60R18). The Equinox EV’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the bZ4X (275/40R21 vs. 235/60R18).

The Equinox EV’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the bZ4X XLE’s standard 60 series tires. The Equinox EV’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the bZ4X Limited’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Equinox EV has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the bZ4X XLE. The Equinox EV’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the bZ4X Limited.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Toyota bZ4X only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Equinox EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The bZ4X doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Equinox EV’s wheelbase is 4.1 inches longer than on the bZ4X (116.3 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

The Equinox EV LT eAWD handles at .81 G’s, while the bZ4X Limited AWD pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Equinox EV uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The bZ4X doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Equinox EV uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The bZ4X uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

When two different drivers share the Equinox EV, the optional memory seats and mirrors make it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position and outside mirror angle. The bZ4X doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Equinox EV’s optional easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The bZ4X doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Equinox EV offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The bZ4X doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Equinox EV has a standard rear wiper. The bZ4X doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

When the Equinox EV with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The bZ4X’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.
