In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Silverado 1500 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The F-150 Raptor doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Silverado 1500 and the F-150 Raptor have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Silverado 1500’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the F-150 Raptor’s (6 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 19 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ford is ranked 9th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 65 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ford is ranked 23rd.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 2 places higher in reliability than Ford.

On the EPA test cycle the Silverado 1500 gets better mileage than the F-150 Raptor:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Silverado 1500 Gas’ fuel efficiency. The F-150 Raptor doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 6.2 V8 engine for maximum performance). The F-150 Raptor R requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 higher (4 to 6 out of 10) than the Ford F-150 Raptor (3 to 6). This means the Silverado 1500 produces up to 23.4 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the F-150 Raptor every 15,000 miles.

The Silverado 1500 stops much shorter than the F-150 Raptor:

The Silverado 1500’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-150 Raptor’s 70 series tires.

For better load carrying, ride, handling and brake cooling the Silverado 1500 offers optional 22-inch wheels. The F-150 Raptor’s largest wheels are only 17-inches.

The Silverado 1500 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The F-150 Raptor doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Silverado 1500 Short Box Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 2 inches longer than on the F-150 Raptor (147.4 inches vs. 145.4 inches). The Silverado 1500 Standard Box Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 11.5 inches longer than on the F-150 Raptor (156.9 inches vs. 145.4 inches).

The Silverado 1500 Short Box LT Trail Boss Crew Cab handles at .73 G’s, while the F-150 Raptor R pulls only .68 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Silverado 1500 Short Box Crew Cab’s turning circle is 1.7 feet tighter than the F-150 Raptor’s (46.3 feet vs. 48 feet).

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 1350 pounds less than the Ford F-150 Raptor.

The Silverado 1500 Standard Bed Regular Cab is 1 foot, 9.7 inches shorter than the F-150 Raptor, making the Silverado 1500 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Silverado 1500 is 5.4 inches narrower on average than the F-150 Raptor, making the Silverado 1500 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Silverado 1500 Double Cab has standard seating for 6 passengers; the F-150 Raptor can only carry 5.

The Silverado 1500 Crew Cab shortbed has a much larger cargo box than the F-150 Raptor shortbed (62.9 vs. 52.8 cubic feet).

The Silverado 1500’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the F-150 Raptor’s (8900 vs. 8200 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Ford F-150 Raptor is only 8700 pounds. The Silverado 1500 Standard Box Double Cab offers up to a 13300 lbs. towing capacity.

The Silverado 1500’s standard front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The F-150 Raptor’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

On a hot day the Silverado 1500’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the F-150 Raptor can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

When the Silverado 1500 ZR2/LTZ/High Country is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The F-150 Raptor’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the Ford F-150 Raptor isn’t available as a regular cab or extended cab.

The Silverado 1500 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The F-150 Raptor doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Insurance will cost less for the Silverado 1500 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Silverado 1500 will cost $285 to $1560 less than the F-150 Raptor over a five-year period.
