An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Silverado 1500 Gas’ fuel efficiency. The Ram 1500 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 6.2 V8 engine for maximum performance). The Ram 1500 Longhorn/Limited/Tungsten requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

A 10-speed automatic is available on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Ram 1500.

When the Silverado 1500 ZR2/LTZ/High Country is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Ram 1500’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the Ram 1500 isn’t available as a regular cab.
