Both the Silverado 1500 and Hummer EV Pickup offer Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the Silverado 1500 with Rear Cross Traffic Alert also has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Hummer EV Pickup’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Silverado 1500 and the Hummer EV Pickup have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

Power ranks Chevrolet second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 41 more problems per 100 vehicles, GMC is ranked 20th, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 4 places higher in reliability than GMC.

The Silverado 1500 stops shorter than the Hummer EV Pickup:

The Silverado 1500’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Hummer EV Pickup’s 55 series tires.

The Silverado 1500 has a standard full size spare so a flat doesn’t interrupt your work or a trip. A full size spare costs extra on the Hummer EV Pickup. Without the option you must depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Silverado 1500 Short Box Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 11.8 inches longer than on the Hummer EV Pickup (147.4 inches vs. 135.6 inches). The Silverado 1500 Standard Box Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 21.3 inches longer than on the Hummer EV Pickup (156.9 inches vs. 135.6 inches).

The Silverado 1500 Short Box LT Trail Boss Crew Cab handles at .73 G’s, while the Hummer EV Pickup 3X pulls only .72 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 3250 to 4550 pounds less than the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s power windows’ switch has to be held the entire time to close it fully. The Silverado 1500 ZR2/LTZ/High Country’s front power windows both open or close with one touch of the switches.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the GMC Hummer EV Pickup isn’t available as a regular cab or extended cab.

The Silverado 1500 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Hummer EV Pickup doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
