Safety

Both the Silverado 1500 and 1500 RHO offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the Silverado 1500 with Rear Cross Traffic Alert also has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The 1500 RHO’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Silverado 1500 and the 1500 RHO have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

Warranty

The Silverado 1500’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the 1500 RHO’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 20 percent more Chevrolet dealers than there are Ram dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Silverado 1500’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Ram vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 27 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ram is ranked 17th.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Silverado 1500 Gas’ fuel efficiency. The 1500 RHO doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 6.2 V8 engine for maximum performance). The 1500 RHO requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

Transmission

A 10-speed automatic is available on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the 1500 RHO.

Tires and Wheels

The Silverado 1500’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 1500 RHO’s 65 series tires.

For better load carrying, ride, handling and brake cooling the Silverado 1500 offers optional 22-inch wheels. The 1500 RHO’s largest wheels are only 18-inches.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Silverado 1500 Short Box Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 2.3 inches longer than on the 1500 RHO (147.4 inches vs. 145.1 inches). The Silverado 1500 Standard Box Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 11.8 inches longer than on the 1500 RHO (156.9 inches vs. 145.1 inches).

The Silverado 1500 Short Box LT Trail Boss Crew Cab handles at .73 G’s, while the 1500 RHO pulls only .68 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Silverado 1500 Short Box Crew Cab’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the 1500 RHO’s (46.3 feet vs. 48.3 feet).

Chassis

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 1850 pounds less than the Ram 1500 RHO.

The Silverado 1500 Standard Bed Regular Cab is 1 foot, 10.8 inches shorter than the 1500 RHO, making the Silverado 1500 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Silverado 1500 is 6.8 inches narrower on average than the 1500 RHO, making the Silverado 1500 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Silverado 1500 4x4 is 6.4 inches shorter in height than the 1500 RHO, making the Silverado 1500 much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Cargo Capacity

The Silverado 1500 Crew Cab shortbed has a much larger cargo box than the 1500 RHO shortbed (62.9 vs. 53.8 cubic feet).

The Silverado 1500’s cargo box is larger than the 1500 RHO’s in almost every dimension:

Payload and Towing

The Silverado 1500’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the 1500 RHO’s (8900 vs. 8380 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Ram 1500 RHO is only 8380 pounds. The Silverado 1500 Standard Box Double Cab offers up to a 13300 lbs. towing capacity.

The Silverado 1500 Short Box W/T Crew Cab 4x4 has a much higher standard payload capacity than the 1500 RHO (2020 vs. 1520 lbs.).

The Silverado 1500 Short Box W/T Crew Cab 4x4 has a much higher optional payload capacity than the 1500 RHO (2090 vs. 1520 lbs.).

Ergonomics

The Silverado 1500’s standard front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The 1500 RHO’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

When the Silverado 1500 ZR2/LTZ/High Country is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The 1500 RHO’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Model Availability

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the Ram 1500 RHO isn’t available as a regular cab or extended cab.

The Silverado 1500 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The 1500 RHO doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

The Chevrolet Silverado outsold the Ram Pickup by over two to one during 2024.
