Safety

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Chevrolet Blazer EV achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Cadillac Optiq has not been tested.

Both the Blazer EV and the Optiq have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning, available front parking sensors and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

There are over 5 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Cadillac dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Blazer EV’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 22 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 5 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

Engine

The Blazer EV SS’ optional electric motors produces 96 more horsepower (615 vs. 519) than the Optiq-V’s optional electric motors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Blazer EV has larger standard tires than the Optiq (255/60R19 vs. 245/50R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Blazer EV offers optional 22-inch wheels. The Optiq’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

The Blazer EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Optiq doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Blazer EV’s wheelbase is 5.5 inches longer than on the Optiq (121.8 inches vs. 116.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Blazer EV is 1.9 inches wider in the front and 65.9 inches wider in the rear than on the Optiq.

The Blazer EV RS eAWD handles at .80 G’s, while the Optiq Sport AWD pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Blazer EV RS executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Optiq Sport AWD (26.6 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .64 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Blazer EV SS has a 1.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Optiq (7.5 vs. 6 inches), allowing the Blazer EV to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Blazer EV’s minimum ground clearance is 1.9 inches higher than on the Optiq (7.9 vs. 6 inches).

Passenger Space

The Blazer EV has 1.3 inches more front headroom, 2.6 inches more front legroom, 2.4 inches more front hip room, 1.7 inches more front shoulder room, 1.1 inches more rear legroom, 2.8 inches more rear hip room and 2.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Optiq.

Cargo Capacity

The Blazer EV has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Optiq with its rear seat folded (59.1 vs. 57 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Blazer EV has a standard rear wiper. The Optiq doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Recommendations

Motor Trend selected the Blazer EV as their 2024 Sport Utility of the Year. The Optiq has never been chosen.

The Chevrolet Blazer outsold the Cadillac Optiq by over 139 to one during 2024.
